Neue Map "Frontline"

September 16, 2005 - As part of its effort to prove that the PS3 will have a number of high profile sequels among its lineup, Sony Computer Entertainment confirmed at TGS today that Ubisoft is already producing Brothers in Arms 3 for the next-generation system. Other than the title, however, nothing else about the game was revealed -- but at least we know that this winter's "Earned in Blood" won't be the last in what has so far been a pretty interesting franchise.

....Liquidize105: Tell me about Earned in Blood.
Randy Pitchford: Earned in Blood deals with how Cpl. Hartsock becomes promoted to Sgt. and how he's sort of in a squad that's competing with his old squad. Hartsock is sort of in the shadow of Baker and takes some really serious risks to earn the credibility of a squad leader - to earn the respect of his new
squad.
Randy Pitchford: It's a really hardcore story compared to the last game... Hartsock is a different guy than Baker.
Randy Pitchford:
When we spent so much time with all of these real veterans, these arch types started to
appear.
Randy Pitchford: There are guys who are humble - like Baker was... Remember "I never asked to be squad leader"
Liquidize105: Ah huh.
Randy Pitchford: Hartsock, on the other hand... He's a stallion. He felt like he should've had the job - the promotion. He wanted to do it. It's also real complex human stuff... It's not that he feels he's a better man, but that he has a wife and daughter and he can't trust anyone else with his own life and the life of the men.
Liquidize105: How does the story of EIB explore that part of his persona?
Randy Pitchford: Baker lost a lot of guys during the first 8 days of the invasion... Some of it was Leggett's fault (the guy with the glasses). Some of it was Mac's fault (the platoon sergeant). Some of it was Baker's fault.
Randy Pitchford:
I said a few moments ago how Hartsock felt like he had to earn the credibility of a squad leader - earn the respect of his men. There's a reason why the game is called "Earned in Blood" It's not just some cheap way for marketing folks to get the word "blood" into a game title :)
Randy Pitchford: That kind of thinking is for all the "assault" games that EA is churning out... That's for products driven by marketing and not by passion.
Liquidize105: Are there specific story elements which involve the player concerning this
aspect?
Randy Pitchford: I was talking about the last point
there...
Randy Pitchford: To answer your latest question...
Randy Pitchford: Baker was interesting because he was learning how to be squad leader. Remember the game had you learn how to use our squad command system and how to use fire and maneuver tactics... Baker's character arc of learning how to be a squad leader and making mistakes sort of matched with the player's arc of learning how to play this new kind of squad command game Brothers in Arms presented.
Liquidize105: Hehe, I see....
